Firm Aveko s.r.o. (Ltd.), in its aviation division, continues 60 years old tradition of repairing gliders that started in 1943 with reopening the airfield in Brno – Medlanky and building a repare shop for gliders used by a German flying school.
After the war, activity of the repare shop continued as a part of Moravian municipal works that produced prototypes of airplanes for big aviation industry. Prototypes of seven all-wood gliders and engine airplanes were built at that time.
Following the short post-war period, the workshop was acquired by Svazarm (Association for cooperation with the army) and servicing and reparation of all-wood, hybrid and metal gliders belonging to Czechoslovak aeroclubs took place there.
Starting 1988 the workshop at Medlanky has been assumed by firm Aveko s.r.o. which at Medlanky restore and repare historical as well as modern gliders for Czech and foreign customers.
In the beginning of 2007 firm Aveko started production of airplane VL-3 that had been constructed by firm Vanessa Litomysl and orginally produced by firm Karel Klenor – KLN at Chocen. Production of Vl-3 has been retained at Chocen, where not only wide experience of firm Karel Klenor – KLN with production of composites can be used but where it is possible to take up old tradition of aircraft production started by activity of the Czech firm „Ing.P.Beneš, Ing.J.Mráz, továrna na letadla v Chocni“ that after the war continued in national enterprise Orličan (production of Metasokol).
In modern airplane VL-3 in this way Moravian and Eastern Bohemian traditions of aviation production meet.
