With VL-3 SPRINT plane the valid world speed record over a straight course was overcome in category RAL2

With this plane the valid world speed record over a straight course was overcome in category RAL2 (microlights with movable aerodynamic control, flown with two people) last year.
The trial was realized on 19 October 2005 from the airfield Hořovice. The crew represented pilot Jiří Unzeitig and copilot Věra Vavřínová. Authorized course Beroun – Žebrák with length of 17400 m was used. It was decided to attempt for the record even though the weather conditions were not ideal (turbulence, side wind, bad visibility) and to perform four transits over the given course.
After evaluation of the result it could be with pleasure stated that the valid record from 1999 was overcome for nearly 10 km per hour. It is necessary to say that for the attempt the first prototype of the plane was used in series configuration, without dismantling aerials, sealing interface clefts etc. More about the record it is possible to find in the article of Vladimír Šilhan from LAA.
The record was recognized by FAI at the beginning of March 2006.
